Parkdale Community Development Group (PCDG) presents the vintage and handmade market series.
The Parkdale Bazaar provides locals with an outlet for showcase and sales to promote craft, recycled and homegrown merchandise. As a response to the neighborhood's thriving vintage and craft communities the event will take place 5 times throughout the year and include over 60 vendors.
The Parkdale Bazaar Holiday Edition is our biggest and... best market of the year. The event will take place in the Masaryk-Cowan Community Center (220 Cowan Ave.) from 11AM – 5PM on December 4th, 2010 and will feature a hot chocolate station, Christmas card portrait studio and vintage Christmas special marathon.
Christmas Card Portraits:
Holiday portraits can be a little cheesy, especially with a 90’s Christmas Eve backdrop and Rudolf sweater. Why fight it? Come have your corny portrait taken by guest photographer Jillian Botting. It’s free! And we’ll provide everything from the antlers to Christmas sweaters, so come with friends and get silly.
Vintage Christmas Special Marathon:
Remember when Will hatched a harebrained scheme to have Boyz II Men perform at Little Nicky’s Christmas Eve Christening? Or the time Ricky was homeless on Christmas and Angela tried to save him with help from a mysterious homeless ghost? …Here’s your chance to remember all those lost television gems of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s at our Vintage Christmas Special Marathon. It’s free! And happening all day, so grab a cup of coco and enjoy!

Methinks' Holiday PopUp Art Shop Village
Project 165
165 Augusta Ave
Toronto, ON
roject 165 is thrilled to present Methinks’ Holiday PopUp Art Shop Village: a contemporary art and craft showcase housed inside a life-size diorama, curated and art-directed by Ryan Ringer.
Shop Hours: December 10 - 27, 12 - 6pm daily
Closed: December 25, 26
...
Press Preview: Friday, December 10, 6 - 8pm
Holiday Party: Friday, December 10, 8pm - 12am
This playful space of curiosity and wonder, featuring the work of 50-plus local and international creators, promises to take the drudgery out of the holiday gift-seeking experience, making it fun and memorable while giving new meaning to the term “presentation is everything.”
Methinks' Holiday PopUp Art Shop Village is more than a sale. It's a conversation about quality, craft and the business of persuasion in Toronto’s art scene. Says Ringer: “This is a rare and special opportunity for a general audience not just to find special stocking-stuffers, but to consider the exhibition as a work of art, to have a magical encounter. Moreover, it challenges traditional art sale formats and raises the bar for anyone working with the popup shop concept in Toronto.”
Past Holiday PopUp Art Shop Projects include a replica of the livingroom-museum of the fictional curiosity collector Uncle Ronnie Graham (one of Ringer’s many alter egos), and a faux-stone-and-mortar Chris’mas cottage made of cardboard and papier-mâché. This year, Ringer and his specially chosen crew of collaborators will build not just one popup shop but an entire village of popup shops inside Project 165’s storefront exhibition space in Kensington Market.
For sale will be artist books, painting, ceramics, illustration, sculpture, dollies, greeting cards, fashion and home accessories, artist-performed dinners-for-two, dioramas, hand-printed t-shirts, posters and other one-of-a-kind finds.
Participants Include:
Alex Bowron
Catharine MacIntosh
